I first heard about the PUA community from the VH1 hit show “the pickup artist”. I kind of thought it was a good thing that someone was giving guys a direction. But as the show progressed and I learned more about this community, I realized that’s all those guys needed was direction. Those guys took the advice of some guy who believes life is a live action D&D game and dresses like a gothic dooley, in an attempt to “peacock” when all he’s really doing is making himself a conversation piece as if he weren’t even a human being. These guys then turned into d-bags that every woman dislikes. Guys who think they are far more attractive then they really are, arrogant, insecure guys who dress like clowns because they need to be the center of attention.

It’s funny how many people i think subscribe to the PUA lifestyle now. I now go to college where the all the guys dress in Ed Hardy t-shirts, frosted tipped Faux hawks and skinny jeans. Good thing I always believed the best form of “peacocking” is the be yourself and don’t let obstacles or people trying sway you into making you look foolish while their hand is my pocket; metaphoricaly and literaly.

What i find really ironic is VH1 has a another show “tough love”. When the host/matchmaker steve introduces the women to “good guys” that aren’t chumps and seem to be secure and something going on for themselves they don’t look like “peacocking” ass clowns with an extremely inflated and convaluted ego. The girls like these guys when the men never “neg” them, call the dates “field tests” or “day1, day2″ or refer to the woman as “sets” “targets” or “hb8″.

what’s wrong with having money and being able to buy the best things in life i you like NOT having a movie star crib that’s your choice but don’t discourage these guys from wanting to be rich.

this is a great post. I have been reading up and studying this type of lifestyle for about 5 years now. I have read the books from various guys who do know what they are talking about like yourself, and I have had good success with using the techniques that I have learnt.

One thing that I really enjoyed what you said was keeping it real. You can only pretend for so long that was one thing that I learnt a long time ago and it is great that you put this out there for all of us guys to see.

This is really good stuff Cam,I’ve tried to explain a lot of what you have been saying to the guys that I come across that are into the whole pick up thing. I used to be an admin for a lair,it was good when new guys came in and wanted to learn some stuff,add the fact that they seemed like regular good guys who just needed to be steered in the right way. Fast forward 3 or so months and they are deep into the acronyms and women who they wanted to know and talk to have become reduced to “sets” and “targets”.

And then you say to yourself”where was that cool guy that I met a couple of months back?” I started getting creeped out by some of the guys and left it. Now I’m just trying to help guys out by giving them the best advice one guy can give to another in this community. Learn a little bit,make sure it meshes with your personality,get some experience,build some confidence and then GET THE FUCK OUT!

You should go on Barry’s show more often,I like your no BS approach to the community.
