That mentality of trying to do too much to quickly and to want to be good at everything has stopped me from progressing in a lot of things that I have wanted to get really good at. If your expectations are too high then you quickly become discouraged and disappointed and often give up. Taking one thing at a time and just getting good at that before you move on is without a doubt the best way to get better, like your jab example. That's why I love that quote: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

"For me I’ll admit it was also being too scared to do anything before being sure I knew everything, that’s a big problem I’m still working on."

Yeah, I have the same problem to some extent, so I must go back to basics and create some balls for myself - women like mens balls by default ;)

Our problem is caused by fear of being rejected which makes everything even more scary because we want to control what we cant control in other person behavior. What is helping me is mindset that I give a woman like few minutes to show me that she can meet my standards not as a technique but for real. If she is boring I dont deal with her working my ass off - I blow her out. But if she is realy intresting but I'm boring thats my fault and something to work at.

BTW Cameron, great posts as always. I can almost always relate to what you are writing about which in some cases is not that great news for me. I was little on the dark side also, and I see that many people in my country are there right now. Pick up gurus became weird celebs, women became new prozac, guys became brainless zombies...

So instead of going from a place of "I have nothing to say to women" to "Now I have this opener, let's try that and see what happens", I went from "I have nothing to say to women" to "Okay i have an opener but what do I do next?" As in, how can I 100% guarantee success before I jump in....

I think the biggest problem with all of the material out there is that people try to absorb as much as they can and end up trying to do too many things at once. In other words, they don't small chunk any of the teachings when practicing it. I speak from experience here. I spent a great deal of my time reading material, but I didn't have any structure for how I would internalize what I've learned. For example, practicing 2 things I've learned for two weeks straight.

The main culprit is a lack of discipline.

We all want to get good...and get good fast. The way to do it is not by trying 10 things at once but trying a few things at a time to ingrain them. In relation to your article Cameron, without establishing that point of reference (by small chunking), the process of getting good will take longer.
