I had only been in four years, but I had a clear self identity a clear purpose, I knew what I had to do each day. I had pride, self-respect and a little rank. I’ve been thinking about this identity/purpose thing a lot too, and there are several ways this can be interpreted.

I find that removing layers of "identity" is often more helpful than having a fixed identity. So many people are walking around with identities that they're attached to because of it feeling familiar but that are no longer serving them, such as the "identity" of being the guy with no friends or no life. It's actually hard for these guys to let that go because, for many, it's all they know, and the unknown is very scary. My only purpose is forgiveness, but that's a longer comment ;-) Nice article, Cameron.
