He lacked emotion.\u00a0\u00a0 It was more like,\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 <em>\u201cAwww, fuck, I gotta do this, because I am in hot water, and my advisors\/publicists whom I pay good money for tell me this is the right thing to do.\u00a0 Sponsors, are you watching this?\u00a0 Shit, why can\u2019t I just pay someone to read this for me?\u00a0 Is Steven Seagal available?\u00a0 He likes making dramatic speeches with no emotion that still trump my delivery\u2026.Hey, corporate sponsors, you are watching this, right?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0Well, I guess Steve Seagal wasn\u2019t available and Tiger was told to do the speech himself. His advisors forgot to give him one pointer: \u201cHey Tiger, try to come across as sincere and that you really care.\u201d\u00a0 Or maybe they tried, and this is still what we got.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Agent Smith from the movie \u201cThe Matrix\u201d could have managed to do a better job than this guy.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A soulless robotic speech that became worse with every minute really has stirred up tense reactions, specially from women.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0I suppose most men don\u2019t really care.\u00a0 They probably have the attitude of \u201cWell, he wanted to bang a lot of chicks.\u00a0 I\u2019d do it too if I were in his shoes.\u201d\u00a0 But Tiger\u2019s case is interesting because it resembles another \u201cScandal\u201d from about 10 years ago, that of President William Jefferson Clinton.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0Intriguingly enough, a lot of women forgave Bill Clinton very quickly.\u00a0 That\u2019s what\u2019s fascinating about it.\u00a0 There was this attitude of, \u201c<em>Well, the guy is stressed, and he needed a release.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0 In some places, the backlash turned towards Hillary.\u00a0 Maybe she should have been keeping her man happy.\u00a0 That\u2019s what makes this comparison amazing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Bill was the President, leader for the free world, fooling around with an intern inserting a cigar in her vagina, and yet most people (without a political agenda) were quick to let it go.\u00a0 With Tiger, not so much.\u00a0 One key element separates the two: Likeability.\u00a0\u00a0 Clinton comes across as likable, someone you could go to a restaurant and have dinner with as well as a glass of wine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Tiger comes across as a guy who has stick up his ass.\u00a0 Who knows, he may be a real nice guy to hang with, but his public persona does not convey that, and what\u2019s what matters.\u00a0 People see the public persona and make a snap judgment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 &#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Identifying with each character<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0 Here is where it becomes fascinating: Women watching this identify with either one of two characters, the woman who was cheated on, or the one who was cheated with.\u00a0 There aren\u2019t any other options.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 In Bill Clinton\u2019s case, women who forgave him identified themelves with either Monica or Hilary.\u00a0 With Monica, they see it as some super filthy romance novel type of torrid affair in the White House.\u00a0 Those who identify with Hilary, ultimately, come to see it as a mistake made by a man who is a good guy and means well.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0In Tiger Wood\u2019s case, it\u2019s different.\u00a0 Those who identify with the mistresses see it as some guy who just used them for cheap sex and was quick to sell them out.\u00a0 Those who identify with the wife see it as a cheating guy who has no backbone. He went into hiding for months, then finally came out for a press conference where he took no questions, and will go back to hiding.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0If there is a quality more dislikable than infidelity, it\u2019s cowardice.\u00a0 It\u2019s a guy who is just looking to save his ass and that\u2019s all he cares about.\u00a0 Such is the way Tiger Woods comes across to the female population.\u00a0 They can\u2019t see a redeeming quality from either perspective.\u00a0 As a result, it induces a lot of anger from women.\u00a0 No matter what, a percentage of women would have been angered by his actions.\u00a0 There also would have been some who were understanding and very forgiving, a lot more than there are now.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 &#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0In my estimation, Tiger had two choices:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Choice 1:\u00a0 Admit the situation, make a quick apology, and get back on the golf course.\u00a0 Allow his playing to dazzle people who do care about golf and those who don\u2019t care about golf don\u2019t watch anyway.\u00a0\u00a0 This is what Kobe Bryant\u00a0 did and he was accused of rape.\u00a0 Even one account of rape is far worse than multiple accounts of consenting adults engaging in extramarital affairs.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0 Truth of the matter is that in one year, no one is going to give a shit.\u00a0 Really, no one is going to care in one year.\u00a0 Some people don\u2019t even care now.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0 Choice 2: Make a sincere apology, and move on.\u00a0 This is what he tried to do, but the problem is that he doesn\u2019t have that Bill Clinton \u201cLikable\u201d factor going for him.\u00a0 By making a lengthy phony apology, he accomplished two things:\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Made the situation into a very big deal<\/li>\n<li>Made himself look worse, by appearing to be a phony person.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0As for me, I didn\u2019t care about Tiger Woods before his \u201cTransgressions.\u201d\u00a0 I don\u2019t care about him now.\u00a0 I don\u2019t particularly like golf, and don\u2019t even consider it a sport.\u00a0 It\u2019s a skill-game much like bowling.\u00a0 Hence, I am rather indifferent to\u00a0golf, Woods,\u00a0and the entire\u00a0issue.\u00a0\u00a0Its sociological impact is\u00a0what I find intriguing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0I find the social significance of this a bit alarming.\u00a0 Considering that we live in a nation that is waging war on two fronts, Afghanistan &amp; Iraq, an economy full of unemployed people, crashed real estate market, and not to mention that recent quake in Haiti has left people without access to so much as a band-aid.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 Yet, the eyes of the nation are glued to a 30-minutes press conference because some professional golfer cheated on his wife.\u00a0 Words can\u2019t begin to describe the absurdity of this.\u00a0 Basically, some dude you don\u2019t know, who has a wife you don\u2019t know, banged a bunch of sluts you don\u2019t know (but perhaps would like to now), and he is apologizing for 20-minutes for something that is essentially between him and his wife.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0If you think about it, it makes no sense at all.\u00a0 It\u2019s like, \u201cHey, I shouted at my grandma last week.\u00a0 That was not a nice thing to do.\u00a0 So\u2026\u2026.
